Alisha Thomas – Finding Home, Building Community

Our Graduation Sunday, we heard from Alisha Thomas, a graduating senior from Lockport, Illinois, double majoring in English and Political Science, with a minor in Legal Studies.

Alisha’s Wesley journey began with a family connection—her aunt had spent many hours studying at the ETC Coffeehouse years earlier. That legacy came full circle when, as a freshman, Alisha stepped through the same doors. She quickly discovered what she would come to call a “true home away from home.”

“I absolutely LOVE the people. No matter what my week has been like, I know I’ll leave Midweek with something to smile about.”

Alisha has been a steady and joyful presence at Midweek and beyond. Whether welcoming newcomers, organizing festive gatherings, or simply showing up with kindness and heart, she has helped shape Wesley into a place where connection feels effortless and belonging is real.

“Sometimes I didn’t know where I fit in. But here, I never had to earn my place. I could just be.”

Outside of Wesley, Alisha’s ambitions are just as inspiring. After taking a gap year to gain work experience, she plans to attend law school—bringing her passion for justice and her love of people into a new chapter of service.

She’s also leaving behind a vision for Wesley’s future: more community events, more laughter, more boba tea runs. More of what she helped cultivate—a place where everyone can feel seen, valued, and at home.

Alisha, thank you for showing us what it means to lead with warmth and purpose. You’ve helped create a community where joy and justice hold hands, and where every newcomer knows there’s a seat at the table.
